Before You Leave Home
When you open this guide, you will be prompted to add it to your phone’s home screen. This is highly recommended as you will be able to access our guide offline and have all the necessary information at your fingertips - no Internet needed. You do not have to download an app or create an account, you just have to save the site and you will see a shortcut on your mobile home screen which looks just like an app.
AfriCamps at White Elephant Safaris has Wi-Fi so you will be able to access the guide regardless, but you may want to save the guide for use when you are away from the camp area.
Alternatively, you can follow the following steps to add the app to your phone.
Android device
- Tap the Add to Home Screen button.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install.
- Wait a few seconds for your app to install and begin browsing.
iOS device
- Tap the Share button at the browser options at the bottom of your screen.
- From the options, tap the Add to Home Screen option. An icon or a screenshot of the website will immediately appear on your home screen.
Please note, offline app functionality is not supported by all devices.
Food
Please remember that all AfriCamps locations are self-catering. If you are not ordering our meal baskets, please ensure that you have all the food and essentials you may need before arrival. The camp is located in a game reserve and the gate closes strictly at 18:00. The camp has a shop that sells basics like water, snacks, ice and firewood. The closest grocery store is 50km from the reserve. We provide salt and pepper in the tents, but any other spices, sauces and cooking oil must be packed.
Firewood
Firewood is for sale at all our camps, but you are welcome to bring your own.
Swimming towels
AfriCamps provides bath towels, but guests are asked to please bring their own swimming towels for the pool and outdoor wood-fired hot tub.
Cooler box
Each tent has two bar fridges that should suffice for a weekend. If you are a full tent or you are staying for longer than a weekend, it is advised to bring an extra cooler box to store your food and drinks, especially in the warmer months.
Fishing equipment and/or boat
Guests are welcome to bring their own boat. Please inform us if you do. If you are bringing your own boat, please visit Rules & Safety to familiarise yourself with our rules and regulations.

Check-in: Strictly between 14h00 and 18h00 on day of arrival.
Please note that the N2, especially between Ermelo and Richards Bay and between Piet Retief and Durban, is experiencing increased traffic, and at times the roads are in bad condition. We recommend adding an extra 2 hours to your travel time to account for any potential delays, in order to reach the reserve gate by 18h00. If you are traveling from the north heading south on the N2, please be aware of ongoing roadworks in Piet Retief that may cause delays.
Check-out: Before 10h00 on day of departure.
Reception hours: 08h00 to 16h00. Should you arrive after 16h00, please report to reception first thing the next morning.
Please note, Pongola Game Reserve South Gate opens at 06h00 and closes strictly at 18h00 for the safety of the animals, staff, and guests.
